How to Get Started building an eCommerce Website Using Worpress
Building an eCommerce website can be challenging to do especially if you are brand new to the online marketing world. I know, because when I got started selling products online 9 years ago it took me more than 6 months to figure out what to do and in what order to do them in! Thankfully, technology has rapidly advanced since then. Numerous ecommerce platforms have been created all offering their various features and benefits. So you might be wondering why you should build your ecommerce business based upon WordPress and why it’s better compared to other ecommerce systems? Well, the answer to that question will really depend. I know it might seem like a cop out answer, but it’s really the truth. I have personally used over 15 different ecommerce platforms (Shopify, BigCommerce, 1ShoppingCart, Ecwid,eShop,Volusion, and the list goes on). Each system has had their pros and cons. The thing to keep in mind with any technology, including building your business on the “right” platform or system, is that there is no such thing as the “perfect system”. There will always be some feature, or bug, or something just not quite right or even missing altogether.
Why Use WordPress for Your eCommerce Site?
The reason why I launch ecommerce sites using WordPress, besides WordPress powering more than 25% of the entire websites in the world, is because the system gives me 100% freedom and control over my own system. The software is constantly being improved upon every year by the best programming minds of the world to stay in line with the rapidly growing ecommerce world, you can have unlimited pages, posts, there are over 45,511 free plugins to look at in using to customize your site to get what you precisely want, etc. Read this article for other helpful wordpress questions and answers.
While I could go on and on sharing with you about all the awesome benefits and features about WordPress, the tutorial today is all about helping you get started with the 6 basic steps of building your own ecommerce store on WordPress. While you follow the steps below you can experience for yourself if you enjoy using WordPress or not. If you prefer not to go with WordPress I recommend going with Shopify ecommerce as seen here. They are affordable but more expensive to use compare to building your site on approved WordPress hosting. Shopify does not give you 100% control over your site nor do they give you all the free options available that WordPress has through their plugins and themes. However, Shopify has an awesome staff of innovative thinkers, they’ve build a solid platform that is easy to use and have world-class customer support.
